The Mercatore was founded in 1980, in an old sugar plant mill building in Pernambuco estate, northeastern Brazil. In the beggining the main purpose was to absorb female labor workers, that were less and less used for the rural economy.
It was a challenge, transform the rustic workers of sugarcane fields into embroiderers and seamstresses with sensitivity to produce delicate and sophisticated pieces.
Mercatore believes that childhood is the basis for the entire life. The company essence is in dressing children as child, recovering a bit of sophistication and innocence of the past and combining traditional techniques to fun contemporary styles and prints.
